Possessing the Promised Land

Joshua 1:11 – Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within 3 days you are to cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which YAHWEH your God is giving you, to possess it.

* the people are camped just outside of the Promised Land: a camp is a minimal covering, as it is only to be temporary, therefore, long-term residence in a camp can begin to have deleterious effects.

* the people had to ‘prepare provisions for themselves’: a very loose fit to the old belief that God helps those who help themselves. When ever part of God’s plan is performed. there is His part and our part – even if our part is to sit & watch God do it Himself.

* 3 Days: 3 days they will enter Promised Land; Jonah was in the fish 3 days and 3 nights; Son of Man 3 days & 3 nights in the heart of the earth

* to POSSESS it: God does NOT have Alzheimer, He repeated Himself deliberately; the purpose of entering the Promised Land is to POSSESS it. (Possess – webster.com = (1) to have & hold as property: own, (2) a) to seize & take control, (b) to enter into & control firmly: Dominate. [to possess is more than this still, when you truly possess something, you do various things to personalize it – to make it your own, to make it special for yourself. If you’re not enjoying an item, then you do not truly possess it – for that too is part and benefit to possession]

! YAHWEH, your God, has given – earmarked with your name, set aside for you to have – a satisfying portion of the Promised Land, but you must ‘prepare provisions’ to ‘cross the Jordan’ !

Matthew 6:32b – 34 …your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things./ But seek first His kingdom & His righteousness; & all these things shall be added to you;/ therefore, do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own

Phil 4:6&7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer & supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God;/ and the Peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus.
