1 John 3:8 – the Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
What does this mean? What are the ‘works of the devil’? Read carefully:
Genesis 2:7 – then YAHWEH God formed man of dust from the ground, & breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; & man became a living being.
Genesis 3:22 – then YAHWEH God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good & evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, & take also from the tree of life, & eat, & live forever”
Romans 3:23-25 for all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God (the image we were first created in),/ being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;/ whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord
John 20:22 – …He breathed on them & said to them “Receive the Holy Spirit”.
Jesus didn’t just “die for sin”, he died to bring everything back to God’s original intent: to bring us back to being in the image of God, to restore us to communion with God that we can again have His favor —
2 Corinthians 5:17-19, 21 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come./ Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ & gave us the ministry of reconciliation,/ namely, that God was – in Christ – reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, & He has committed to us the word of reconciliation./ He (God) made him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him (Jesus).
