Proper Attitude and Approach to God’s Word

I’ve been looking into the issue of Boundaries because it seems there is a divide on the issue – some agree that Boundaries are needed, while others go so far as to say they are contrary to the teachings of Jesus.

Even with only a preliminary look into the issue I say: ask the wife who has been a victim of her husband’s abuse; put yourself in the shoes of the parents whose live-in son is doing and/or selling drugs in their house; read the eyes of the unloved husband whose wife puts all her time and energy into everything but the marriage… and read the book that God had written, because even He uses boundaries. Didn’t realize that one? Let’s have a look:

} We understand in general that sin keeps us separated from God, but more specifically..

} Adam & Eve were told somethings could be eaten while others could not, and if they ate those that were off limits there would be consequences. Sure enough, they ate, and then experienced said consequences.

} In Deuteronomy 23 restrictions against certain persons entering “the assembly of YAHWEH” were enforced

} What are the 10 Commandments but instruction to live by, which, in Deuteronomy 5, end with vss 32 and 33:

32] So you shall observe to do just as YAHWEH your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left.

33] You shall walk in all the way which YAHWEH your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.

} The Israelites, in Deuteronomy 28, were clearly informed that certain behaviors were acceptable while others were not, and the rewards of obedience were listed, as are the consequences of disobedience

} Yeshua taught that there is only ONE way to God: John 14:6 NASBS
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Boundaries, all laid down BY GOD in His book to us – and certainly there are others were we to dig deeper.

The purpose of this article is twofold:

1) to point out how so many “Christians” are not giving adequate thought to what they read, IF they read at all. The teachings of Yeshua especially are given in a format that requires we take time to think in order to find the core principle he’s teaching. The Truths of God’s Word are NOT all found in just the words on the page, there is always more to be found as we ponder.

Finding the “meat of the word” requires much more than a surface reading of a few verses each day; deep truths are only found when one digs deep to find them. And sadly, too few people claiming to be disciples of the Messiah actually give time to finding the deep things needed to live a sound life in him.

2) to show how Boundaries are, in fact, of God – because He Himself sets boundaries – and that we must do the same, sometimes strictly and sometimes not so much, but we must set boundaries, and stick to them, to protect ourselves and those in our lives, that we can have healthy relationships.

Beloved, the Book that God gave us through the writing of His chosen writers is a powerful treasure, and we must cherish it in order to understand and receive all that is ours. If we treat it with flippancy, we do so to our own harm; so let us be mindful to treat it with honor.
